2017/18 Start Up Dates at Glenmary School Modified
Posted: August 28, 2017
Start up dates at Glenmary School are being modified due to health and safety precautions related to the school’s ongoing modernization. The modernization experienced many unexpected delays over the summer break that were related to the age of the building. For health and safety reasons, staff cannot work out of the school this week, so all start up dates are being modified to give staff adequate time to set up classrooms for students. A tentative start up schedule has been created, and is subject to change at any time:
Tuesday September 5th **NEW DATE** September 6th **NEW DATE**– Staff re-enter the school to set up classrooms
Thursday September 7th **NEW DATE** Friday September 8th **NEW DATE**– New student orientation
10am-12pm for new students
1pm-4pm for all students to pick up timetables and see lockers
Friday September 8th **NEW DATE** Monday September 11th – First day of school **NEW DATE**
“The decision to postpone the first day of school was made in the best interests of all students and staff after careful consideration of all options. We are very grateful to the contractor Jen-Col Construction and the many sub-contractors for working very hard to complete this project,” said Superintendent Betty Turpin. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for families.”
All parents and guardians have been notified of the change. An amended schedule has been created so instructional time will continue to be above the amount required by Alberta Education. If any further amendments are needed to start up dates, all parents and guardians will be notified by Synrevoice message, and all information will be posted on the Glenmary School website, social media and on PowerSchool.
Due to health and safety precautions, Glenmary School staff is currently working temporarily at the Holy Family Catholic Regional Division Central Office at 10307 – 99 St in Peace River. Registrations for new students are currently being accepted at that location. Anyone with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the HFCRD Central Office at 780-624-3956.
