The Glenmary Sr. Girls Basketball team capped off an amazing season by capturing the Gary Frost Trophy winning 4th place at the 2A Girls  Provincial Basketball Tournament this past weekend down in Three Hills, AB.

The Saints went into the tournament ranked #4 and played their opening game against St Joseph’s Crusaders from Brooks, AB. who were ranked 5th representing the South-Central Zone.  The Saints won that game 62-55 and advanced to the semi-finals where they met up with the Lacrete Lancers who were ranked #1 coming out of the Northwest Zone.  It was a battle right up until the final few minutes when the Lancers hit a couple big shots to pull ahead and win 56-39.  That put the Saints in the bronze medal game…something that has not be achieved at Glenmary in the past 30 years!!.It was an exciting finish to a great tournament as the Saints lost a heartbreaking bronze medal game 58-56 to the Pigeon Lake Panthers ranked #2 in province going into provincials representing the Central Zone.  The Panthers hit a layup with 4 seconds left to put them up 2 points, and the Saints tried one last half-court shot at the buzzer that fell short.   It was an amazing weekend of basketball, and the Saints represented Glenmary and Peace River very well both on and off the court!Way to go Saints!!
