The Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD) is pleased to welcome David Amiot as the Principal of Glenmary School, commencing in the 2017/18 school year.  David, who is currently a Senior Manager with the Office of the Registrar with Alberta Education, brings a wealth of experience as a teacher and administrator in elementary, Junior High and Senior High levels.  In his current role with Alberta Education, David is responsible for investigating conduct and competency complaints and prosecuting cases against superintendents, principals and teachers.  He was also the Provincial Lead for revising both the Teaching Quality Standard Applicable to the Provision of Basic Education in Alberta (TQS) and the Teacher Growth, Supervision and Evaluation Policy (TGSEP).

“We are very excited to welcome David to Glenmary School, HFCRD and the Peace River community.  He has many years of valuable experience at various levels in education throughout the province,” said Superintendent Betty Turpin.  “David’s experience is ideal for a large, academic, and well-rounded school like Glenmary.  We look forward to seeing the school continue to thrive under his leadership.”

David’s leadership background includes being the former principal of two large high schools, a middle school and an elementary school.  His diverse career experience also includes being a Provincial Achievement Test Examiner for Social Studies and English Language Arts as well as a University of Alberta Instructor and Facilitator who supported student teachers during their field experience placements.

David was directly involved in the development of a new Principal Leadership Quality Standard (PLQS) and a new Superintendent Leadership Quality Standard (SLQS) that are both targeted to become Ministerial Orders this fall. He was also the Provincial Coordinator for Reviews by the Minister dealing with student expulsions and special education placements, Provincial Coordinator for Special Needs Tribunals, and leading ministerial investigations.

In his personal life, David successfully completed the Canadian Death Race in Grande Cache twice as part of a relay team in 2010 & 2011. He enjoys weight and fitness training and is an avid Montreal Canadiens fan. Above all else, David and his wife Mona enjoy every single moment with their 18-month-old son, Deklan.

David and his family are very excited to be joining Holy Family Catholic Regional Division and being part of the Peace River community. He looks forward to helping students embrace fundamental values of the Catholic faith and realizing their highest potential.

HFCRD wishes current Principal Dominique Jean the best in his future endeavors!
