Glenmary Student Broenyn Armstrong on 2018/19 Minister’s Youth Council

Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD) proudly congratulates Glenmary School student Broenyn Armstrong who has been selected to be on the 2018/19 Minister’s Youth Council. Broenyn is one of 33 high school students selected from across Alberta from over 300 applicants. The Minister’s Youth Council will meet three times during the 2018/19 school year to participate in discussions and activities with the Minster of Education David Eggen and Alberta Education staff. Students will provide valuable input on education initiatives, and the council’s priorities will be determined by the students themselves. Broenyn says she has several ideas she would like to bring to the Minister’s Youth Council.
“I think students who struggle to learn a concept would benefit from re-learning skills they learned in earlier grades. Focusing on the basics and breaking things down would help students learn,” said Broenyn. “I’d also think junior high classes should be separated similar to high school classes.”
Broenyn, who is currently 14 years old and in grade 9, says she’s still in shock that she was selected for this unique opportunity. She thinks she was selected because she is a very well-rounded student who scores well academically, plays on sports teams and volunteers regularly in the community.
“I’m looking forward to meeting the 32 other members of the Minister’s Youth Council and hearing their different points of view. There will be many diverse cultures and identities represented. I think I’ll learn a lot,” said Broenyn. “I can’t believe I could be part of decisions that will change the lives of thousands of students.”
“Broenyn is Glenmary School’s first ever participant on the Minister’s Youth Council and we are so proud to have her representing our region on the provincial level,” said Glenmary School Principal David Amiot. “Broenyn is a mature young woman and will be an excellent ambassador of our school.”
